Photo albums not working 28 Mar 07

Filed under: Technology — Chris Uncensored @ 12:39 pm

puss_in_boots.jpgHi readers,

You may have noticed that our photo albums and some photos in articles aren’t working. This is because our flickr plugin for WordPress isn’t perfect right now, and giving me foreach() errors in the php code. I’ll fix this problem when the plugin has a new version, and the author knows about this bug.

Chris

Best YouTube video ever 19 Mar 07

Filed under: Personal Opinion — melissa @ 12:21 am

I suffer from a strange disease called YouTube-itus. The symptoms are mild and include serious procrastination, retro flashbacks of watching your favorite childhood cartoon themes (or in my case the almost complete collection of [tag]Rescue 911[/tag]), also resulting and failure to get work done on time.

Enough with my afterschool special, I am about to share the worlds best YouTube video ever. Growing up, My dream of being a cartoon, was distroyed by reality at the tender age of five. It took me a while to get through that transion. Then one day i watched the episode of [tag]Punky Brewster[/tag], with the deaf custodian who dreams were to be a violinist. At the time, I had no original thought of my own, so I wanted to be a violinist too (minus the fact that i am completely tone deaf). Apparently my mother took me wanting to be a concert violinist as me wanting to figure skate, and i did so looking dispite my fear of hurting myself, being amazingly awkward, while waring ridiculous outfits for the next seven years of my life. I never did learn how to play the violin, but i do intend on someday doing so.

During my last set of midterms, I was de-stressing with classical music, and YouTube. I came across this one video by [tag] Ed Alleyne-Johnson [/tag]. I may not have gotten A’s on all my midterms, but i did see a bit of God for a moment, which is worth way more then any good mark I have ever gotten.

Video games that don’t suck 14 Mar 07

Filed under: Gaming — Chris Uncensored @ 7:22 pm

Pac-ManA month ago, I wrote about shooting games (LINK), and one of my complaints was that they were all the same. Actually, the problem is more severe: all mainstream [tag]video games[/tag] are the same nowadays.

It’s like the film industry, where everything [tag]Hollywood[/tag] puts out to theatres has the same generic love/revenge/random guy in a strange situation plot.

Emo kid from http://www.flickr.com/photos/orangeacid/137551966/It’s like the [tag]music industry[/tag], which goes through phases that everyone tries to copy, and ends up ruining the genre. I’ve lived through pop and [tag]emo[/tag]. Metal’s probably coming next…

Anyway, back to the point I’m somewhat trying to make. You see, video games lack creativity. Here at ClashBang, we’re going to change that. Let’s all make up the plot of a video game that won’t suck!

A lack of logic 13 Mar 07

Filed under: Education, Mount Allison University — melissa @ 12:04 am

I am in this one class, [tag]Discrete Structure[/tag] which pretty much deals with reasoning and proof… or [tag]logic[/tag].  Anyway,  there is one person in this class that insists on taking there laptop and wearing unnessarly large head phones and play [tag]World of Warcraft[/tag],  Blog, and do everything that is not related to school work. This raises  issues with me.

It is extremely rude to your instructor and to your classmates. Pounding on a keyboard is extremely distracting, and when you are in a small room with only one person speaking,  typing tends to be the only thing I hear. I do not take my knitting to class because it distracts myself, and those around me. I owe it to my professors who has worked very hard to get where they are , and I owe it to myself to get all that I can from the thousands of dollars I pay to go here.  There is no way that you could possibley use a laptop to take notes in this class. If you are not going to pay attention, then stay the hell home.

Daylight savings time bug in Google Calendar? 12 Mar 07

Filed under: Technology — Chris Uncensored @ 9:47 am

WatchI’ve been using [tag]Google Calendar[/tag] to track my classes and appointments, so imagine my surprise when I get a [tag]Google[/tag] Notifier notice about a class coming up during that class!

It seems that although many parts of North America had changed their clocks during the weekend, the folks at Google messed something up with [tag]daylight savings time[/tag]. Here’s the [tag]bug[/tag]:

All my appointments, even repeating classes, are now scheduled one hour later than their original time. A 9:30AM class is now set at 10:30AM instead.

I checked my [tag]time zone[/tag] settings, and it’s properly set at -4 (Atlantic time).

Hopefully, everything will be fixed soon. For now, I’m forced to manually adjust each event…
