A Complaint.

Ok, what is with people being loud at inappropriate times and in inappropriate places? There is a time and a place for everything. If you are at a hockey game, that is an ok time to be loud. If you are at a bar, and you are shouting over the music, that is ok too. There are, however, times when it is not good to be loud. I would like to clarify when some of these times are, because it seems to me that a lot of people are not aware of what they are.
#1. It is never a good idea to be really loud in the hall of your residence at 3 AM, even if it is a Saturday night. Let me explain why: There is a person, who for the sake of this story, we will call Mildred. Mildred has left a massive French essay to write in its entirety, the day before it is due. For this reason, she has set her alarm for early Sunday morning, and gone to bed early on Saturday night, to prepare for a long day of work. Mildred isn’t very responsible when it comes to big assignments. (That might also explain why Mildred is writing this blog entry instead of her essay.) Mildred had been lying in her bed, stressed out, for almost an hour before she was able to fall asleep. Shortly after she finally was able to sleep, she was abruptly awoken by 5 or 6 people, running up and down her hall, screaming and laughing and shouting. Mildred was not impressed. Mildred was, in fact, incredibly upset. If she had had the energy, she would have gotten out of bed, gone into the hall, and faced the wrath of the group of drunken boys, in the attempt to get them to shut up. After about 10 minutes of loud screaming, at which point Mildred was thoroughly awake, with no chance at a quick descent into dreamland, the boys departed. Mildred was depressed.
#2. I do not personally believe that it is a good idea to go to the library with a friend. In general, people go to the library so that they can study in peace. People like to get a lot of work done at the library, because they want to leave as soon as possible. It is kind of a depressing place. In this example, let us assume that the over-hearer of several loud exchanges is named Bertha. Bertha was innocently working on her French essay, as quickly as possible, because she really didn’t want to be working on it anymore. She had arrived at the library as soon as it had opened, and had been working in peace for approximately an hour. At this point, two girls showed up, and sat at a table together. Their original conversation was incredibly loud, and Bertha felt the need to glare accusingly at them. Several times. Now, Bertha is sitting at her computer, over-hearing their hushed conversations, and unable to concentrate on French. She is writing a blog entry instead. What an idiot. But at least she isn’t talking about condoms in a library, unlike some people.
#3. When you are trying to talk about someone behind their back, make sure their back is far enough away that they aren’t going to hear you. Just some advice.
That is Heather’s complaint of the day (and also her helpful advice!) I hope that you learned something from this informative blog post, which could appropriately have been titled “Please Shut Up. Now.”

PS. Why is it that I can type over 600 words for a blog entry in about 5 minutes, but it takes me about 4 times that long to type that much for my French essay? Life isn’t fair…
