False idols of fashion 20 Jul 06
What is this unsighty obsession our Western world has with trying to convince ourselves that with a certain piece of clothing adorned by a beautiful celebrity, we would in turn become an incarnate of them?
Please, open your eyes and wake up from your dreams of superstardom. There’s a reason that designers push their wares toward you, and it’s not because they feel obligated to make supermodels out of the masses. That hordes of wanna-bes crowd their stores and read their magazines is a testament of the conformity of the society and feeds the arrogance of those in control.
What I’m saying is to stop trying to be somebody else and live your own life. Don’t kid yourself to convince others that you’re a “diva.” What makes somebody a good person is not simply the layers of make-up applied or the value of the clothing you adorn. Too often we are trained to hold in high regard those beautiful maidens, but such beauty fades with time. Intelligence is a higher conquest, and unlike looks, money cannot necessarily increase one’s attributes.
Another oft-disregarded beauty is the kindness exhibited by too few in today’s societies. For what do your looks accomplish if you are too high up to even acknowledge the prescence of others around you of whom you deem unworthy?
Meanwhile, you wonder why your looks aren’t buying you friends.
