Zombies?

I used my awesome skills and converted a post from my old blog, which used Geeklog, into Wordpress awesomeness. Enjoy Chris, one year ago:

Zombies have always confused me.

It’s because in their various depictions in popular media, such as movies, games, and books, they always leave me wondering.

It’s not just so much that I don’t understand how they work. I mean, you can have a virus and be a zombie (Shaun of the Dead), it can be the result of some regenerative testing (Resident Evil), a product of weird testing (House of the Dead), or any of the background reasons. For the sake of storyline, I have no arguments against the walking dead.

In all stories, Zombies want to eat the living flesh (i.e. you and me). Why?

Yeah, I know, it’s a good source of protein and Resident Evil even says that “[they're reduced to their basic instincts,]” so it explains their hunger.

The problem is, it’s always legions of walking dead going after people. Everyone eventually dies, so it explains why there are so many of them, and having less survivors create tension and excitement, so that’s cool.

But why LIVING flesh?

When I’m Johnny the Zombie going after people in a gang, isn’t it easier just to grab the arm of the dead guy next to me?

Suppose I like fresh meat, off a living person. I mean, who doesn’t like fresh food? OK, that can be the reason why zombies like fresh meat, but why are the victims turned to zombies afterwards? If zombies are so hungry for fresh meat, they’d eat anything on the victim, leaving no muscles for mobility of the future victim, so it cancels out the virus-making-them-zombies factor. If the regenerative drug simply makes more flesh, then why go through all the trouble of finding new victims? Just sit and wait for more food!

I don’t understand zombies.
