“Do you love Canada?” 30 Nov 05

Filed under: Politics — Chris Uncensored @ 8:48 am

Reporter: “[Stephen Harper,] do you love Canada?”

What kind of baiting question is that? What possible response could Harper have given?

“No, sir, I detest Canada. I obviously show no love for Canada despite spending countless years working with government and political parties. My hatred for Canadians cause me to spend days away from my wife and family, and to waste years of my life when I could’ve made money in the private industry.”

To be honest, Harper did not directly say the phrase “I love Canada” in his response. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Canada. There are other ways to say it, and he did respond with a long answer showing his dedication to the country.

Next thing you know, the Liberals are on a frenzy. They smell blood in the water.

Liberal attack: “Stephen Harper Doesn’t Love Canada”

Media following: “Harper Shows No Love for Canada”

Harper was criticized a few days ago for connecting the Liberals to organized crime. One would naturally assume so, reaching the conclusion from the Gomery inquiry to date. However, the Liberals demanded an apology for this outrageous statement.

If the Conservatives were to suggest that Martin “doesn’t love Canada,” they would face a public humiliation with the press printing “Harper Angry Again.”

Ahh, partisan politics…

From a CF News Release:

RMC Cadet Dies in Accident

RMC 05.12 - November 27, 2005

KINGSTON, ON - Royal Military College Officer Cadet Lee Burym was killed today as a result of a tobogganing accident at approximately 5 a.m. on Fort Henry Hill in Kingston, On. Next of kin have been notified.

Officer Cadet Burym, 18, of Danbury, Saskatchewan, was a first year cadet in science and engineering.

No further details can be made available at this time pending the outcome of a police investigation into this tragic accident. The Kingston Police are in charge of the investigation.

Condolences to his family and friends. From what I gather, some cadet friends of mine went on SLC with him.

An unfortunate end to a young Officer Cadet, but there’s always a risk when you’re in the military.

I personally was accepted as an Officer Cadet in the Regular Officer Training Plan to the Royal Military College in my Grade 12 year (2004), but didn’t accept the offer due to personal reasons.

Lending money 27 Nov 05

Filed under: Personal Opinion — Chris Uncensored @ 12:56 am

I don’t like to lend money.

It’s not that I’m cheap … though I do enjoy bargains. It’s because lending money to someone else is a huge step for me as it involves trust. It’s unfortunate, but people breach trust. If I can’t trust someone with my money, I can’t trust them, period.

Someone who’s owed me money kept telling me that he had no money to repay me, and that my money would be returned “soon.” He’s been telling me “soon” for over 2 months now, which gets me thinking: if you didn’t have the resources to reimburse me, why did you ask for money from me in the first place?

It takes a great responsibility to borrow money from people. I believe that how you deal with money is a reflection upon your character. Fiscal responsibility should be practiced, and if you can’t handle it or don’t want to burden yourself with a test of character, don’t borrow money.

I personally don’t borrow money from friends since I don’t want the added responsibility. If you can’t afford it now, chances are that you can’t afford it later.

I guess this whole money lending discussion can also be extended to credit cards. I have a nice card with good rewards, but even then it’s a hefty 15% interest if you don’t pay all the money back on time. I never pay the minimum payment since it’s just asking to lose money. It’s attractive though: free money! Then the reality sets in as you find yourself in debt all the time. Once again, don’t spend what you don’t have and won’t have.

So, what happened to the guy who owed money? He was forced to promise to repay all money to the exact penny by Friday, 25 Nov 05. Surprisingly, he returned it Saturday, and continues to owe me the sum of $0.06.

Good thing he’s not my friend, or he’ll be up for a lecture.
